| CanTeen
If you have cancer or have had cancer, and you are between the ages
of twelve and twenty-five, then CanTeen is the support group for you.
CanTeen aims to provide support to young people who have been diagnosed
with cancer, by providing information about their cancer, by encouraging
activity and communication and by promoting enjoyment and fun. This is
why CanTeen is also for brothers, sisters and even friends!
Specifically CanTeen aims to
- Help teenagers come to terms with their diagnosis of cancer.
- Discuss the feelings and anxieties that may be experienced by teenagers
who are told they have to have surgery or receive chemotherapy
/ radiotherapy.
- Organise social and recreational activities to prevent isolation
and promote a positive attitude towards illness.
CanTeen organises six to eight daylong activities each year. These get-togethers
include discussion groups in the morning, followed by lunch and an afternoon
activity such as bowling, Quasar or Go-Karting. The group also goes on
four holiday weekends each year. Just look at the photos to get an idea
of the fun that we have. All our meetings and weekends away are relaxed
and informal. Members can bring along a teenage friend, brother or sister
if they wish. There are no membership costs for CanTeen. Members are
only asked to contribute €12 towards the cost of weekends away.
